Quebec reported 1,203 new COVID-19 cases today, 844 of which were from the past 24 hours and an additional 359 cases from the previous three days that they say had gone "uncounted due to a technical error".
According to Santé Quebec, the province’s coronavirus death toll has increased to 5,976 after announcing six new COVID-19-related deaths.
Quebec’s average number of daily cases recorded over the last week now stands at 1,011.
There are now 88,994 cases in the province, 488 hospitalizations, and 78 patients in the ICU.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he plans to keep Canada’s borders closed as long as coronavirus cases remain elevated in the U.S.
“We have committed to keeping Canadians safe and we keep extending the border closures because the States is not in a place where we would feel comfortable reopening those borders,” the prime minister said Wednesday in an interview with a radio station in Winnipeg.
