During a Friday afternoon press conference, Quebec Minister for Education Isabelle Charest announced that starting on March 26, some organized sports and recreation activities, including Quebec gyms, will be able to restart and reopen.

And yes, that includes those in red zones!

"Evidently, sanitary measures will always be present, but we should be able to practice several of our favourite activities, even if it means that we have to do them a little differently," said Charest.

Charest did make it clear that the activities should be practiced individually, safely, and in a family bubble.

“It’s the first phase of deconfinement and it’s a start,” she said. “Other steps will follow if all goes well. The most important thing is that our young people will finally be able to find their teammates.”

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect:

Red Zones:

Gyms will be allowed to reopen for individual activities or family members who live together.

Rules for outdoor activities will remain as they are: up to eight people can gather with the recommend social distancing.

** As of March 15, extracurricular activities in schools will be allowed in class bubbles.

Orange Zones:

Up to eight people can participate in indoor sports activities together, but distancing will be enforced.

For outdoor activities, up to 12 people will be allowed to participate.

Extracurricular activities and school outings will be allowed in classroom bubbles as of March 15.

On March 26, students from different bubbles will be allowed to participate in no-contact activities together, with a maximum of 12 students for outdoor activities and of eight for indoor activities.
