Montreal’s very own, William Shatner is rocketing into space— boldly going where no other actors have gone.

Shatner, who played Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek, confirmed the news this week via TMZ.

The Star Trek star, 90, will be traveling aboard Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard rocket, thereby becoming the oldest person ever to escape the confines of Earth.

The Canada native’s 15-minute flight will launch from west Texas on October 12. The outlet also reported that the mission will be filmed for an upcoming documentary featuring the actor.

The flight will last 10 minutes and reach no higher than about 66 miles.

“I’ve heard about space for a long time now,” Shatner said, confirming news long rumoured but thought by some to be a publicity stunt for his new album.

“I’m taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle.”

Bezos, 57, first went up to space this past summer alongside his brother, Mark Bezos; pioneering pilot Wally Funk, who at 82 is the oldest space visitor to date.
