Summer is just a few days away and the city of Montreal is more than ready to kickstart the season.

From June 24th to September 25th, Montrealers will be able to get on the metro for free in select downtown stations on Saturdays and Sundays. The purpose behind this initiative is to encourage locals (and tourists) to explore our city and its many attractions.

The various stations include: Saint-Laurent, Place-des-Arts, McGill, Peel, Champ-de-Mars, Place-d'Armes and Berri-UQAM.

Despite these stations being free of charge on weekends, commuters will still be required to purchase tickets when departing from other stations.

While this new initiative is big news for those visiting the downtown borough, the city of Montreal has decided to end free weekend parking in the downtown area instead to clean up the populated area.

According to a release made by the city of Montreal, “As part of its cleanliness efforts, the borough will deploy more staff on the ground and increase the installation of recycling and waste baskets by more than 50 per cent."
