Brie Larson turned to her pal Jennifer Lawrence for support after her 2016 Oscar win left her feeling a little underwhelmed.

The star took home the Best Actress honor for her role in Room, but admits the big win didn't fill her with the confidence she thought it would, so she turned to The Hunger Games star for a little help and guidance.

"I was like, 'I don't feel any different. I don't feel better about myself. I still don't feel like I'm a good actress'," she tells InStyle magazine. "She (Lawrence) was like, 'Oh, yeah. That's totally normal. I've had the same thing. Don't think of it like that. Think of it as, like, you got your Ph.D. You're certified; that's it. It doesn't change anything. You can still f**k up. Every judge is still human'."

Larson took Lawrence's advice to heart and decided to use her Oscar win as a mark to make wise career choices, including her upcoming role as comic book superheroine Captain Marvel.

"She is earth's mightiest hero. Period," she says. "Not earth's mightiest female hero."

And Brie is hoping pieces of the character rub off on her: "I want to hold on to the cockiness and the sense of ownership," she adds, "because I do believe in my abilities, and I do value myself, and I do know that I'm strong, and I do know that I can do a lot of things that people don't think I can do."

Captain Marvel, which also features Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law, hits cinemas next month (Mar19).
