This year’s biggest movies have come close to box office records…But hang tight! There’s still time for Hollywood’s upcoming 2019 releases to dazzle. Here are some of the best-reviewed and most eagerly awaited films of 2019.

Avengers: Endgame – OUT NOW

Avengers: Endgame is well worth watching: the epic superhero thriller features an all-star cast and amazing special effects. Though it is still in theatres, this film is already the second-highest grossing film of all time ($2.8 billion).

Aladdin (live action remake) – OUT NOW

Despite lukewarm reviews, Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic, starring Will Smith as the Genie, performed well at the box office. Plus, most people who LOVED the original came out of this version with positive words.

Dark Phoenix – OUT NOW

The latest installment in the X-Men film series stars none other than Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones). Sadly, it met with negative reviews, scoring a measly 23% on Rotten Tomatoes. This one is probably best seen by only the biggest X-Men fans.

Toy Story 4 – OUT NOW

The 4th installment of Pixar’s Toy Story franchise is about… Not a toy, but… A fork! Starring a classic cast of voices including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Christina Hendricks, Jordan Peele and Keanu Reeves, this highly-rate animated film is well worth watching!

Spider-Man: Far From Home – OUT NOW

Tom Holland plays Spider-Man alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya and Cobie Smulders. What could go wrong? Not much, if you consider the 90% Rotten Tomatoes score!

The Lion King (live action remake) – Jul. 19

We all have fond memories of watching the animated Lion King as children… Now, CGI and live-action footage come together for a highly-anticipated remake, starting Beyoncé, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover and more.

Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood – Jul. 26

Quentin Tarantino’s latest film got rave reactions at the Cannes Film Festival, including standing ovations lasting well in excess of 5 minutes. We can’t wait to watch this new movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie… But maybe leave the kids at home! Tarantino has a well-known penchant for gratuitous violence.

The Art of Racing in the Rain – Aug. 9

The story of a lifelong companionship between a dog, a driver and their race car. Starring Kevin Costner, Amanda Seyfried and Milo Ventimiglia.

After the Wedding – Aug. 9

This film is a remake of the 2006 version. Starring Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams and Billy Crudup, expect a wonderful cinematic exploration of how weddings can make unexpected memories and events bubble up to the surface…

The Angry Birds Movie 2 – Aug. 14

Fun for the whole family! Rovio Entertainment brings Angry Birds from your phone & tablet, all the way up there on that big silver screen! Expect lots of colour, lots of laughs, and yes… Some anger, too!

It Chapter Two – Sep. 6

After the smash success of the It film in 2017, we get another chapter of creepy clown calamities… This is another film probably best watch without young children around.

Downton Abbey (feature film) – Sep. 13

Downton Abbey is receiving a royal visit! This film, a sequel to the TV series so far, will look in great detail at the fussy preparations and polite drama surrounding an royal visit to the fictional Downton Abbey.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil – Oct. 18

Angelina Jolie returns as fantasy villain Maleficent… Sounds like a great Halloween movie!

Terminator: Dark Fate – Nov. 1

Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger return as Sarah Connor and the “Model 101” Terminator! No one was expecting this one, and we can’t wait to see what James Cameron’s team of writers have come up with.

Charlie’s Angels – Nov. 15

A new Charlie’s Angels in 2019? This will definitely be interesting. In the wake of “Me Too” and “Time’s Up”, what will the angels say & do differently than they did in the previous movies? Starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.

Frozen II – Nov. 22

If the first movie was any indication, Frozen II should be funny, moving, visually spectacular and just an all-around hit for the whole family.

Jumanji: The Next Level – Dec. 13

The second onstallment of the new “Jumanji” series will once again star Jack Black, Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas and more… And this time, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover will be joining them as well! It’s a promising cast, and we can’t wait to see how the film turns out.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Dec. 20

The 9th film in the Star Wars saga is supposedly going to be the final one as well. Reviews have been mixed so far about the last trilogy since Disney purchased the rights to the franchise… But everyone knows the die-hard fans will still make a point of going to see this film.

Little Women – Dec. 25

An adaptation of the 1868 novel, this film starring Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan and Emma Watson is a must-watch for any period drama fans. Out Christmas Day!
