The South Shore municipalities of Sainte-Julie, McMasterville and Varennes are officially postponing Halloween –at least the actual trick-or-treating part – amid forecasted heavy rains in Montreal… Other municipalities may follow suit.
As a parent, how do you feel about this? We get the feeling many will be relieved that their kids will be staying safe and dry this year… Not to mention the chaotic, sugar-fueled celebration being moved from a weeknight to a Friday!
All three abovementioned municipalities took to their official social media accounts to announce the news that Halloween celebrations are being pushed to Friday, November 1st this year. “Over 40mm of rain are expected Thursday evening,” Sainte-Julie explained in its post. On his Facebook, page, McMasterville mayor Martin Daulac asked citizens to use social networks to spread the word – don’t send your kids out trick-or-treating on a dark, rainy night – it’s unsafe and unnecessary! Varennes City Hall reiterated the same message, adding that firefighters and their big red trucks will take part in this year’s one-day-late celebrations.
We’ll update this article if more municipalities decide to postpone Halloween this year too.
