Miley Cyrus has transformed her blonde locks into an edgy platinum mullet.
The Wrecking Ball hitmaker celebrated her 27th birthday on Saturday by getting a haircut from her mother Tish Cyrus, which Miley documented on Instagram. However, the cut wasn't even, forcing Miley to turn to celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger to tweak her hair into a much slicker shoulder-length 'do with layers, a fringe, and a lighter shade of blonde.
The 27-year-old shared the updated version of her haircut on Instagram Stories, with Sally also posting a snap of the cut on the photo-sharing site.
"PUNK VIBE" Sally captioned the post, complete with scissors, rock hands and black heart emojis.
She later told InStyle.com that she went with a "modern mullet" for the pop star.
"Miley wanted to go more punk, she wanted something edgy. We went with a modern mullet that she can wear sleek, but also wavy and messy," Sally explained, adding that she created the added definition and texture to Miley's hair with a razor.
However, the singer's fans were left divided over the new 'do, with one telling Sally that it was the "worst haircut I've ever laid my eyes on".
The hairstylist fired back at her critics, explaining that the singer's hair looks harsh in the Instagram picture because it had just been straightened.
"First of all if you knew anything about hair, it's the position she's in that's why it looks that way, it's 100% even and she also had it straightened so it's more severe, which I actually like," she wrote.
