Shinzo Abe, Japan’s Prime Minister, proposed a one-year postponement for the Tokyo Olympics. He said that the 2020 games cannot be held if not all countries participate.
Earlier this week The International Olympic Committee had not yet made a decision to postpone the Tokyo Games, but Canada was the first country to announce that they will not compete this summer, calling for one-year postponement. Canada was immediately followed by Australia. READ MORE
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak it will now be postponed to summer 2021.
The Olympics have never before been delayed, but were cancelled in 1916, 1940 and 1944 during the two world wars.
