Rolling Stone has updated their list of the five hundred best albums of all time and there is a new number one!

"The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" is a recurring music ranking of the finest albums in history as compiled by the popular American magazine. The first list was originally published in 2003, with a slight update in 2012. Over the years, it’s been the most widely read feature in the history of the magazine (last year, alone, the list generated over 63 million views on the site).

There are plenty of lists online but the reason why this list is regarded as one of the best is that the results are based on weighted votes from selected musicians, critics, and industry figures.

The latest updated edition features 154 new entries— starting with Montreal’s very own Arcade Fire at the number 500 spot with The Funeral and ending with Marvin Gaye’s What's Going On, which tops the list!

The Beatles lead the list with most appearances (a total of 8 with one album in the top 10), followed by Bob Dylan (7), Neil Young (6), and Kanye West and The Rolling Stones each with five appearances.

The top 10 albums are as follows:

10. Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

9. Bob Dylan, Blood on the Tracks

8. Prince and the Revolution, Purple Rain

7. Fleetwood Mac, Rumours

6. Nirvana, Nevermind

5. The Beatles, Abbey Road

4. Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life

3. Joni Mitchell, Blue

2. The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds

1. Marvin Gaye, What's Going On
