Jennifer Lopez was inspired by her family's skincare secrets while creating products for her debut brand, JLo Beauty.
The singer and actress recently announced that her eponymous skincare and make-up line, which includes a serum, face mask and a dietary supplement in the first drop, would be launching in January.
Lopez said she wanted to create simple and natural products, and used traditional beauty tips she learnt from the women in her Puerto Rican family.
“My mom, my aunt, my grandmother, all of them used olive oil as a beauty product (on) hair when it got too dry, on your face and your body, on the belly when you’re pregnant,” she told WWD. “What it does for the skin is amazing, (but) nobody wants to smell like a salad. So, it was like, how do we take the olive and create something that is proprietary to us?”
The Hustlers star used squalane, fermented oil, extra virgin oil and leaf extract to create That Star Filter in an Instant Complexion Booster, which is designed to give a finishing touch to make-up free or full coverage looks.
Alongside the product, Lopez is also launching a dietary supplement, containing olive extract, vitamin E, manganese and copper, aimed at fighting signs of ageing, as well as a gel cream cleanser, a wonder cream, and an eye cream.
Lopez also confirmed she would be expanding her beauty line into other areas, such as bodycare with the inclusion of creams and oils.
“There’s an expansion here that goes beyond specialised creams for different skin types,” Lopez said. “What I wanted to do for this initial line was to provide simple skincare that is about natural beauty and feeling great in your own skin.”
JLo Beauty will launch on 1 January 2021, although fans can sign up for early access on 8 December.
