Each year, the Met Gala provides celebrities with the opportunity to experiment with fashion.
The 2021 event held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday night was no different, with the American Independence theme very much open to interpretation.
While models like Kaia Gerber, Karlie Kloss, and Kendall Jenner opted for beautiful designer gowns, other stars (ahem, Kim Kardashian!) went practically incognito.
Read on for a round-up of other stars who didn't hold back when it came to making sartorial statements.
Lil Nas X
Reminiscent of Lady Gaga's 16-minute-long spectacle at the 2019 Met Gala in which she showcased three Brandon Maxwell looks, Lil Nas X gave fans a mini fashion show on Monday. The rapper made his entrance in a regal gold cape with elaborate embroidery from Versace, before stripping it away with the help of his assistants to reveal a golden suit of armour. Later, he stole the show in a shimmery gold bodysuit.
While the Schitt's Creek star is never afraid to push fashion boundaries, he certainly turned heads at the Met Gala. Wearing bespoke Loewe, his look merged two seminal works by late artist and LGBTQ activist David Wojnarowicz crafted with the brief of imagining what a "gay superhero" might wear.
Over the course of her career, Iman has built up a reputation for being able to pull off just about any fashion trend. At the annual bash, the supermodel sported a completely handmade crinoline and gold leaf gown, featuring a jacquard bustier and flares, made by designer Harris Reed. To top off the ensemble, Iman wore a huge hat made by Vivienne Lake.
In a particularly bold move, German popstar Kim Petras opted for an orange Collina Strada dress with 3D horse head attached to the bustier, and completed the look with a super long red ponytail. Not one for the fainthearted!
Though the singer opted for a rather low-key outfit - turning up to The Met in a three-piece black Prada suit - his choice of guest proved to be unconventional. Frank walked up the famous stairs carrying a green robot baby, which matched his neon green hairstyle. As yet, the star has not explained the reasoning behind the intriguing accessory choice.
