Since being released on May 5th, Childish Gambino’s newest song and video for “This Is America” has quickly become one of the most controversial moments in music. The cryptic, violent clip references racial disparity, gun violence and a slew of other bleak social realities the United States face today.
Although Canada is a close neighbour to the U.S., and similar in many ways, we also have our own social realities here that are distinct. That’s what film editor Bilal Dawson wanted to show when he made his own Canadian parody of Donald Glover’s rap statement.
