Jon Bon Jovi almost scrapped his band's fan anthem Livin' on a Prayer because he didn't think it rocked.

The singer composed the track with former bandmate Richie Sambora and longtime collaborator Desmond Child, but admits he was "indifferent" about it when they had completed it.

"The song was so unique," Bon Jovi said during a question and answer session on his Runaway to Paradise fan cruise earlier this week (beg26Aug19), according to Ultimate Rock. "Livin' on a Prayer didn’t sound like anything, so I was sort of indifferent. I thought, 'Well, it’s different, but is it a rock song? Is it us?'"

He reveals bass player Hugh McDonald's uncredited contribution finally prompted him to add the track to the group's Slippery When Wet album.

"We wrote it (song) on acoustic guitars, so there was no drum beat or anything," Bon Jovi added. "There was no bass line."

Bon Jovi is currently completing his first-ever Mediterranean fan cruise, which stopped off in Barcelona, Spain and Palma, Majorca.

He closed his Wednesday night (28Aug19) cruise concert with the song he almost ditched.
