Harry Styles talked about his flamboyant style in his U.S. Vogue cover interview - marking the first time a man has starred on the cover of the fashion glossy in its 127-year history.
The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker teamed a black tuxedo jacket with a lace-trimmed tiered pale blue dress, created by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele - who regularly dresses Harry, for the groundbreaking cover, and in the accompanying interview, Harry discussed his unique approach to fashion.
"I’ll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don’t feel crazy wearing it," the 26-year-old explained. "I think if you get something that you feel amazing in, it’s like a superhero outfit. Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with."
He also touched upon his gender-free style, and said those who refused to push boundaries in fashion were "putting boundaries up" and missing out on the joy of dressing up.
"It’s like anything – anytime you’re putting barriers up in your own life, you’re just limiting yourself. There’s so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I’ve never really thought too much about what it means – it just becomes this extended part of creating something," Harry shared.
The singer confessed he's always been drawn to women's clothes, and acknowledged that there's now less of a split between womenswear and menswear.
"What’s really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away. When you take away ‘There’s clothes for men and there’s clothes for women,’ once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play," Harry mused. "I’ll go in shops sometimes, and I just find myself looking at the women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing."
