Demi Lovato celebrated her recovery from bulimia with an empowering snap of her stretch marks.

The Sorry Not Sorry hitmaker has been open about her battle with the eating disorder when she was a teenager, and the 28-year-old has now taken to Instagram to reveal that she's finally accepted her body.

"I wanted to celebrate my stretch marks instead of being ashamed of them," Demi wrote alongside a series of swimsuit snaps, in which the stretch marks on the top of her thighs are painted with gold glitter. "I started wearing actual glitter paint on my stretch marks to celebrate my body and all of its features (whether society views them as good OR bad).

"My stretch marks aren’t going away so might as well throw a lil glitter on em’ amiright?"

Demi, who also grappled with a highly publicised battle with drink and drugs in the past, went on to explain that her swimsuit pictures were taken during an impromptu photoshoot over the summer, as she wanted to honour the "gratitude for the place I’m in today".

She told her fans and followers that after a meeting with her dietitian, she was praised for making a full recovery from her eating disorders, and she wanted to give hope to those that were struggling.

"I used to genuinely believe recovery from an eating disorder wasn’t real. That everyone was faking or secretly relapsing behind closed doors: 'Surely she throws up here and there,' 'she can’t POSSIBLY accept her cellulite...' those were just a few of the things that I used to tell myself growing up," the Cool for the Summer singer added.

"I’m so grateful that I can honestly say for the first time in my life - my dietitian looked at me and said 'This is what eating disorder recovery looks like'.”
