Tyra Banks has praised the body positivity "evolution", after she began championing it more than 20 years ago.
The 47-year-old said she was overjoyed that finally, two decades after she first called for change, that plus-size models are starting to feature more prominently in fashion campaigns.
"It's so funny because 20 something years ago, I was one of the leaders in this. In beauty diversity, and body image. However, I think what (body positivity activists) are doing today is even more bold. There's evolution," she told People, noting that the candid social media posts from body positivity influencers aren't as "glamorous" as what she was doing to promote plus-size models in her heyday.
She recalled an incident while walking for lingerie brand Victoria's Secret during her eight-year stint at the famous fashion show, when she was told to wear a skirt to cover the "dimples on my booty" despite her fellow models not being required to wear one.
At the time, Tyra called out Victoria's Secret for making her cover up, and she told People that was deemed progress back then.
"That was progress. But now (models) are walking down the runway and having the dimples and not putting the skirt on," she said. "There's constant evolution of everything. I'm happy to have been a part of it, and I'm happy to see people taking it to the next level."
