Nike has settled its lawsuit over Lil Nas X's controversial Satan-inspired shoes.

The Old Town Road hitmaker collaborated with brand MSCHF for the Satan Shoe sneaker, which was a customised red and black version of Nike's Air Max '97s and also featured a drop of human blood mixed with red ink in the sole air bubble.

The shoes sold out in one minute when they went on sale late last month, and were tied into the release of Lil Nas' new single Montero (Call Me By Your Name).

However, the sportswear was forced to issue a statement to dispel any association between them and the controversial shoes, and subsequently sued MSCHF for trademark infringement, false designation of origin, trademark dilution and common law trademark infringement and unfair competition.

On Thursday, a settlement was reached, and a statement for the sportswear giant revealed there will now be a recall of the 666 pairs of shoes to stop them from circulating.

"As part of the settlement, Nike has asked MSCHF, and MSCHF has agreed, to initiate a voluntary recall to buy back any 'Satan Shoes' and 'Jesus Shoes' for their original retail prices, in order to remove them from circulation. If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their shoes, they may do so for a full refund," it added.

They also stated that while the limited-edition Air Max '97s were made "without Nike's authorisation", both parties "are pleased to put this dispute behind them".

A rep for MSCHF has yet to comment.
