Last night marked the 93rd annual Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood.
Prior to the event, producers shared that there would be many intentional changes from what event-goers and viewers are used to, due to various COVID-19 measures. Guests were expected to quarantine, get multiple tests, and to wear masks when the camera’s were off, as producers asked that guests be maskless while on-air.
As reported from various announcers on the Red Carpet, there were much fewer people that walked the floors of the Red Carpet than what they have been used to in previous years. However, that did not stop guests from showing up in their best dressed attire. From Andra Day, to Amanda Seyfried and more, monochrome colours were in trend. Last night marked a special moment in history for women as for the first time ever two women were nominated in the Best Directing category: Emerald Fennel for “Promising Young Woman” and Chloé Zhao for “Nomadland”. Zhao took home the award for Best Directing (the second woman to have ever won in the category), while Fennel walked away with an Oscar for Original Screenplay. We love to see it!
Notable mention to Actress in a Supporting Role winner Yuh-Jung Youn who adorably fangirled over Brad Pitt in her acceptance speech: “Mr. Brad Pitt, finally. Nice to meet you.” Let’s be real, we would have done the same!
Other awards throughout the night included: “Soul” for Animated Feature Film, “My Octopus Teacher” for Documentary Feature, “Fight For You” from “Judas and The Black Messiah” for Original Song, “Nomadland” for Best Picture, Frances McDormand for Actress in a Leading Role, Anthony Hopkins for Actor in a Leading Role, and Tyler Perry for winning the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
