Britney Spears felt "vulnerable in her own skin" after recently trying out a new fitness programme.

The popstar took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a video which shows her dancing by a swimming pool while wearing two different bikinis - one orange and one hot pink.

In the accompanying caption, Britney explained that she was inspired by her boyfriend Sam Asghari to tone up her figure earlier this month, but wasn't thrilled with the results.

"In the past two weeks I've said, 'That's it!...I have got to get in shape considering my boyfriend's body is hotter than hot!!!!' I was like, 'S**T where the hell am I supposed to start...' So I run a lot and try to eat clean and be mindful with my food unless I cheat, like last night when I ate a container of peanuts!!!! And then it hit me ... I might look better but I felt too vulnerable in my skin being this small!!!!"

Britney went on to note that she is still training in the gym but is incorporating boxing sessions into her daily routine too.

"I didn't like it so I started boxing so now I feel stronger too!!!! We all have our own ways to work on our bodies and I respect that cause we all should ... I just hope I don't see an @innout burger any time soon!!!!" the 39-year-old joked.

Britney often shares details of her exercise regime and favourite new purchases with fans via the platform, and a few weeks ago, detailed how she had shopped up a storm at Brandy Melville in Malibu.

"It's not a dressy store, more like a clothing store for women who love workout gear that has a touch of sweetness and a touch of hotness ... not just your typical leggings routine for working out...they had some adorable dresses too!!! I'm so excited for summer," she wrote.
