Teenage internet sensation JoJo Siwa opted to wait until she had a serious girlfriend before coming out as bisexual.

During a candid chat with Demi Lovato on her 4D With Demi Lovato show on Wednesday, Siwa revealed the first time she realised she might be gay, she was watching Jenna Dewan's performance of Ginuwine's Pony on TV show Lip Sync Battle.

"I've been figuring out my gay awakenings recently," the 18-year-old said. "I think I realised that my very first gay awakening was Jenna Dewan's performance on Lip Sync Battle. I think that was one of them."

She also credited Lovato for helping her see the light - by performing a raunchy version of hit Cool For the Summer with her dancer, JoJo Gomez, on tour.

"I remember seeing that and just being a little too interested," Siwa said.

Lovato confessed the 2015 hit was a big moment for her as well, adding: "When I did Cool For the Summer, that song for me was my way of sharing with the world without confirming that I was bisexual... I didn't come out until 2017, but Cool For the Summer was like... it was my way of saying, 'I'm not ready to come out but...'"

Siwa told Lovato wanted to make sure she was serious about her love for girls before coming out publicly. "I always said I'm not going to do anything with it or be like, 'Hey, by the way, I'm gay, but I'm not in love with a girl yet'," she explained. "I was like, 'I'll wait until I actually have a girlfriend or I have a girl that I'm in love with and I'll do something with it'. And that happened."

She started dating Kylie Prew in January 2021.
