David Harbour lost a staggering 80 pounds (36 kilograms) before filming season four of Stranger Things.

The actor, who plays Jim Hopper in the hit Netflix series, transformed his lifestyle in the lead up to the latest instalment of the show, which sees his character imprisoned in a Russian jail.

“I lost about 80 pounds from season three — I was about 270 (122 kilograms) then, and when we shot (season four) I was around 190 (86 kilograms),” he explained in an interview for GQ magazine.

David followed a strict diet and exercise regime that incorporated intermittent fasting and Pilates over the course of an eight-month period.

But the star has no desire to maintain the gruelling regimen.

“I don’t think I’ll ever do that again,” the 47-year-old insisted. “I have this Santa Claus movie coming out for Universal in December and I gained (it all back). But now, yeah, never again. The prosthetics are too good.”

David’s upcoming movie, Violent Night, sees him play a Santa Claus who must save a kidnapped family from mercenaries on Christmas Eve.
