After 36 years on air, the tough decision was made to shut down MTV News...
Known for distributing news in the U.S with reporters Kurt Loder & Suchin Pak, MTV News received popular guests such as Barack Obama, Britney Spears & Mariah Carey. Though the channel's popularity was on the rise in the early 2000's, MTV News had no choice but to visit a rebrand, after fierce competitors such as Vice News and Buzzfeed News entered the game.
Though efforts were made, the fierce market competition lead to MTV News' official closing as of May 9th this year. One thing is for sure, the channel will definitely be missed by its fans...
"If you lived in the era of Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren @ MTV News, you have lived. So many huge moments in pop culture: Kurt Cobain, Biggie, and 2Pac passings, Courtney Love crashing Madonna's interview, etc." said one fan on Twitter.
"I'm not exaggerating when I say that MTV News was my primary news source in my formative years," said another avid watcher.
