Beth Ditto is pleased to have witnessed greater "fat acceptance" in the fashion industry.
The Gossip singer has made her mark in the world of style thanks to her own plus-size clothing line, as well as collaborations with the likes of Marc Jacobs and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Accordingly, Beth is happy to see much more inclusivity and diversity in the fashion world.
"The fat acceptance movement caught a lot of steam and has taken off in a beautiful way and it's really cool," she told Vogue.com. "What I'm seeing now is there is a lot of conversation about feminism, how we need to make it intersectional, and that has to be the priority."
However, the star isn't always a fan of conventional beauty ideas being put onto the "fat movement". And as she comes from the punk scene, she could care less about making fashion "accept" her.
"Like, right now, (model) Ashley Graham has gotten a lot of backlash because people say she's 'not fat enough' and that not everyone is an hourglass. But she is, and people should shut up," said Beth.
The 36-year-old's distinct Rockabilly aesthetic certainly makes her stand out from the crowd, especially when it comes to her hair.
When she broke out into the spotlight back in the mid-2000s, Beth became recognizable thanks to her cropped raven locks and she still boasts a short fringe now to pay homage to her offbeat roots, though has swapped the black shade for more a more natural, brunette hue.
"A stylist told me the other day that I should grow my bangs out, and I had to tell her, 'It's not always about being pretty. Sometimes it's about looking bigger,'" she noted. "As I've gotten older, the black hair made less sense on my face. But I miss being able to look like my weird punk self all the time, even on airplanes. That's why I kept the bangs."
