Ruby Rose has branded Katy Perry's latest track Swish Swish "cheap and mean-spirited".

On Thursday night (18May17), Katy released her latest song from upcoming album Witness. Fans quickly took to Twitter to speculate if the track, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj, was aimed at her pop rival Taylor Swift due to lyrics such as "don't you come for me, no, not today" and "you're calculated, I've got your number, 'cause you're a joker and I'm a courtside killer queen".

The Orange Is the New Black actress, who’s part of Taylor’s squad, also spoke out on the microblogging site shortly after the song's release, blasting Swish Swish as well as Katy's recent output, including songs Chained to the Rhythm, which had a political message, and Bon Appetit, which didn't fare well in the charts.

"'Purposeful poop' to 'bomb a petit' to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of (DJ) Funkagenda..stop trying to make 'Wit..I mean 'fetch' happen," Ruby wrote. "I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low.. is.. a bummer.

"I've always stood up for the people I love and against things I think are cheap or mean spirited. That's not new. You have to follow your (heart)."

When one user asked what she thought about Taylor's song Bad Blood, which is thought to be about Katy, Ruby insisted she wasn't part of the celebrity-filled video and cryptically wrote, "but my bully experiences came from one of the people involved in that song and it's obviously not T (Taylor)."

She also made it clear she was only criticizing Katy, not Nicki, and told the rapper's fans she liked Nicki's verse as it's "the only part that doesn't sound a mess". During her part, Nicki, who has also had a feud with Taylor over the MTV Video Music Awards nominations, sings, "Don't be trying to double back I already despise you, all that fake love you showing, couldn't even disguise you".

After Katy's fans responded to her tweets in their droves, Ruby wrote, "You are her fans you should buy all her songs so the songs will finally chart. If as many as tweeted me bought her last 3 .. the'd (sic) be hits."

When asked if her album would address Bad Blood, Katy recently told Entertainment Weekly, “there is no one thing that’s calling out any one person" but warned people "don't come for me”.
