Bradley Cooper is often mistaken for his The Hangover co-star Zach Galifianakis now he has a full beard.

The actor is growing bushy facial hair for his role as a washed-up celebrity in the A Star is Born remake, which he is also directing, and he admits the hirsute look allows him to wander around largely unnoticed.

"Some people thought I was Zach Galifianakis for a little bit," he told chat show host Ellen DeGeneres in an interview which aired on Friday (05May17). "(They'd be like), 'Alan, Hangover...' and I was like, 'Close, close. Almost!'"

The actor has discovered he can grow a beard very quickly, which led to problems when he was trying to find the right look for his new film: "We did a camera test to test out the looks... and I was like, 'We've gotta go less Founding Fathers-esque...' My beard was huge."

His appearance on Ellen's show marked the star's first interview since his model girlfriend Irina Shayk welcomed a daughter in March (17). The couple has reportedly named the baby girl Lea de Seine Shayk Cooper.

Bradley has been quiet since becoming a dad, leaving promotion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to his co-stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, and he remained tight-lipped about his little girl while chatting with Ellen.

"I don't know if you know this, but you have a baby," teased the talk show host. When Bradley feigned surprise at her question, she jokingly added: "When you get home you should look for it. It's somewhere in your house."

During the interview, the talk show host again broached the subject of fatherhood, but did so by referring to the much-maligned scene in his 2014 movie American Sniper, in which a plastic doll was used instead of a real infant.

"I know you don't want to talk about the baby. I just want to say, I knew you'd be a good father when I saw you in American Sniper," Ellen smiled, before screening a clip of the infamous scene.

"I can't believe you! We already went through this before!" laughed Bradley, before admitting, "It never gets old!"
