Now celebrating its 10th year, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, hosted by Royal LePage Village, has raised over $250,000 in support of three local women’s shelters: Auberge Transition, West Island Women’s Shelter, and Hébergement La Passerelle. This powerful, community-driven event invites men to walk a mile in red high heels as a bold show of solidarity with women and children affected by domestic violence. Women are also invited to participate with red ankle weights, “carrying the weight” for a mile.
Over the past decade, the event has become a symbol of lasting commitment and community-led advocacy. Walkers fundraise individually—or in teams—through personalized fundraising pages, sharing their stories and rallying support from friends, family, and colleagues. Local businesses also play a key role by contributing through sponsorships and in-kind support. The result is a vibrant, united effort where every step—and every dollar—helps provide safety and resources to those fleeing conjugal violence.
