Prom is a rite of passage for high school students, a kind of gateway into adult life… But dressing the part can be expensive!

A Montreal charitable organization is giving out free prom dresses to young girls in need, CTV News reports. Fées Marraines (Fairy Godmothers) is allowing 350 young girls to participate in their prom celebrations thanks to clothing donations.

The so-called Fairy Godmothers take care of everything a girl needs for prom: shoes, dresses, accessories and more. But perhaps the most important aspect is their volunteer work. They give each girl the personal attention she needs to feel special and beautiful on this important night.

With prom season fast approaching, these volunteers, as well as the many donors who offered clothes or money, play an important role in underprivileged girls’ lives. It may be “just one night” but it can make a huge difference to a young girl’s self-esteem.
