This Sunday is Montreal’s annual marathon! The event is attended by thousands of running enthusiasts and professionals each year, and it’s great fun! Plus, this time of year is usually not too warm, which makes it perfect for running.
Of course, the event also causes its share of road closures and delays for drivers… That will not only be the case Sunday, but also Friday and Saturday, with races happening both days. So it’s good to be aware of obstacles and plan your weekend movements in advance!
- Friday: streets closed 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
- Saturday: streets closed 5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Sunday: streets closed from 3:30 a.m. and reopening progressively through 2:30 p.m. depending on the race’s progress.
In breaking with tradition, marathon runners won’t cross the Jacques-Cartier Bridge this year. Instead, they’ll run a course that will first take them through Old Montreal, then down into the city’s Sud-Ouest district through Pointe-Saint-Charles and Verdun (half marathon). Once back at the starting point, runners will exit the downtown core through the Plateau and Rosemont, run a loop around Maisonneuve Park and return to the finish line, which is just a block away from the starting point at the corner of Saint-Urbain and René-Lévesque.
