Just like THAT, 2018 is in the rear-view mirror. Looking back, I think it's important to focus on some of the positive things that happened over the last 365 days. And you know what? There were some pretty awesome things that happened. These are just a few of my personal favorite memories.
Favorite Music Moment of 2018
It was the year of Drake. No one had an impact on music the way one of our favorite Canadians did. So many smash hits, but God's Plan was special. For the music video, he ran around Miami handing out stacks of money to those in need, then crashed a University of Miami party to dance around with students. For all the great music moments of 2018, this one gave me all the feels. Watch it and try not to smile.
Favorite Pop Culture Moment of 2018
In a sea of negativity that tainted much of 2018, Oprah was, once again, the voice of reason. Way back in January, she delivered a powerful speech at the 2018 Golden Globes, taking home the Cecil B. de Mille Award and making us all stop and listen for a few brief, important moments.
Favorite Food Moment of 2018
The food moment that touched me the most this year had nothing to do with the biggest foodie trend or the fanciest new restaurant. Instead, as a father of two great kids who can also be pretty picky eaters at times, what Sesame Street did for an episode deserves full marks. In a move of solidarity between several international Sesame Street productions, characters from China, South Africa and India came together on a special episode featuring street food and an important lesson for kids afraid of eating outside their comfort zone.
Favorite Love Moment of 2018
Find someone who looks at your the way Harry looks at Meghan. As a shameless Royal watcher, my favorite love moment of the year came back in May. There's just something special and different about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are currently expecting their first child together. Watch the video below and relive the vows.
Favorite Sports Moment of 2018
My absolute favorite sports moment of the year happened right here in Montreal and has been viewed around the soccer world. Impact forward Alejandro Silva brought his young son onto the field after a game and what happened next was pure magic. Watch as the supporters behind the net cheer with anticipation as the young lad approaches the goal, eventually erupting into cheers when the ball crosses the line. This was about more than sports. This was pure, spontaneous joy.
Favorite Viral Moment of 2018
Once again, Drake was the catalyst with his hit song "In My Feelings", as everyone and their grandmother jumped on the latest dance challenge, but Will Smith took it to new heights. Literally. More than 4 million views as Big Willy performed his rendition atop a bridge. Kids, don't try this at home.
Favorite "Average Joe" Moment of 2018
Joshua Englert is someone who made his mark in 2018 for all the right reasons. This awesome Pennsylvania Kmart employee delivered a final in-store message before they closed their doors for the final time. I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying. Atta boy Josh.
