What’s Open and Closed on Canada Day

July 1st is a federal holiday, and that means we all get to enjoy some extra time with friends & family!

Be aware of what’s open and closed on Canada Day! Lots of stores and businesses will be closed, others will be open. Make sure to call beforehand just to make sure, and make sure to plan your errands for Saturday and Sunday if you need to!

The STM may be running on a holiday or weekend schedule. We recommend downloading the Transit App on your phone to check the schedule in real-time.

OPEN ON JULY 1st:

  • SAQ (except those in malls)
  • Pharmacies (with some reduced hours)
  • Outdoor markets
  • Most depanneurs
  • Most grocery stores smaller than 4,036 square feet (call first)
  • Parking meters (of course)
  • La Ronde
  • Museums, Space for Life, Montreal Science Centre
  • Movie theatres
  • The observatory at Place Ville-Marie
  • Movie theatres
  • Restaurants are allowed to stay open (but call beforehand to make sure)
  • Montreal Casino
  • Most gas stations

CLOSED ON JULY 1st:

  • Most retail stores
  • Malls
  • Banks 
  • Post Offices 
  • City of Montreal
  • Government offices & courts (municipal, federal & provincial)
