Back in Montreal to hold his daily press briefing, Quebec Premier François Legault reports on the most recent assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province with the National Director of Public Health, Horacio Arruda, Health and Social Services Minister Danielle McCann. Comedians Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse and Pier-Luc Funk are also take part in the briefing.
As of today there are 4069 deaths in Quebec that is 85 more than yesterday. There are 47, 997 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that is an increase of 573 from yesterday. 1,425 people are in the hospital, including 169 whom are in intensive care.
Legault, just announced the reopening of shopping centres outside the metropolitan area starting June 1st. The details of this decision will be clarified this afternoon, Premier François Legault said in his daily press briefing. This does not concern Montreal, where the deconfinement began this today only for businesses that have a direct entrance door on the street.
Comedians Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse and Pier-Luc Funk announced they will host a large virtual gathering on June 19th to offset the postponement of the traditional end-of-year proms in Quebec. The two comedians also said Sunday evening on the show “Tout Le Monde en parle” how precious this initiative is to them. According to them, it would be heartbreaking to postpone such a significant stage of life for young people.
