The Canadian Paediatric Society says the short term effects are evident, long-term effects are piling up and while school closures affect all children, those with special needs or who come from unsafe homes are “disproportionately impacted.”
They also say the risk of COVID-19 among children is low and that safety measures can reduce the risk of transmission even more and they are starting to work on what those measure will look like in the fall.
