What is the best TV show of the '90s?
If you're ready for a real throwback, take a walk down memory lane with a look back at the best TV shows of the 90s!
Some of you may have already seen my list of the 50 best Canadian films or the 50 greatest dance songs. They’ve now tasked me with another list— this time, I had the added pressure of selecting the best television shows of the 1990s.
While there wasn’t anywhere near as many shows to watch then as there are now, the 90s delivered quality entertainment in spades.
There’s a reason they call it the Golden Age of television. It’s been said ad nauseam because, well, it’s true. Not only did many of the shows of the 90s serve as direct precedents to the groundbreaking era we’re living in now but they mostly all stand the test of time. From iconic sitcoms like Friends to heart-wrenching dramas like My So-Called Life, plenty of 90s shows have gained huge cult followings over the years primarily because of their reply value.
That said, I present a list of the best TV shows of the 90s.
A couple of quick notes: In order to qualify for this list, the series had to premiere in the 90s and a majority of the seasons needed to air in the decade. In other words, a show like The Sopranos which only aired one of its six seasons in the 90s will not count, nor will something like Cheers which premiered in 1982. Instead, I’ve decided to add ten shows as a special mention since the point of this list is to decide the series that best represent the decade.
