Every year, Times Higher Education releases a list of the best universities in the world. This year, the list includes more than 1,500 universities across 93 countries, two of which are from Montreal.

McGill University and Université de Montreal have taken the 40th and 73rd respective spots on the list while also ranking in Canada’s top 5 educational institutions.

That’s an impressive achievement considering this year’s ranking analyzed more than 80 million citations across over 13 million research publications and included survey responses from 22,000 scholars globally.

Within the Canadian top 5, McGill finished third behind the University of Toronto (18th overall).

According to the website, the table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

England’s University of Oxford topped the list for the fifth year in a row, while our neighbors south of the border hold eight of the top 10 spots.
