Alexander McQueen, Off-White, and Celine are among the major brands missing from the Paris Fashion Week schedule.

Ahead of the bi-annual fashion event kicking off on 28 September, officials at the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode released a preliminary show schedule, with 88 brands being listed on the official calendar.

The schedule featured a number of surprising absences, with Comme des Gar des Garçons also missing from the list.

A spokesperson for the latter brand explained to WWD that its spring 2021 collection will be unveiled in a presentation in Tokyo between 19 and 23 October as part of Comme des Garçons’ seasonal showroom there instead. The other brands are yet to explain their absence.

Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello and his team announced back in April they wouldn't participating in Paris Fashion Week this year as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, reps for the French luxury fashion house explained that it had "decided to take control of its pace and reshape its schedule" and "will take ownership of its calendar and launch its collections following a plan conceived with an up-to-date perspective, driven by creativity".

Meanwhile, Pierpaolo Piccioli recently announced he would be presenting Valentino's latest collection during Milan Fashion Week rather than Paris, with the Italian brand, which is based in Rome, showcasing its men's and women's Spring 2021 collection on 27 September.

Other brands missing from the Paris calendar include Sacai, Lacoste, Lemaire, Rochas, Atlein, Guy Laroche and Kwaidan Editions.

It is not yet known how many of the 88 labels showing during PFW will be hosting physical shows amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
