Billy Porter enjoyed showcasing his newfound freedom with an all-white look for the 2020 Emmy Awards.
The Pose star has become synonymous with extravagant red carpet outfits, and this year's Emmys look was no exception, as the 51-year-old rocked a custom-made Ashi Studio tailored white jacket with a matching sash for the virtual ceremony, accessorised with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Rick Owens shoes.
In a post on Instagram's official social media page, Billy explained how he's worked hard to be himself on the red carpet, and is no longer fearful of expressing his love for fashion.
“Never in a million years, as a gay Black man who came out in the 80s during the AIDS crisis, did I imagine that a show like ‘Pose’ and a character like Pray Tell could exist,” he wrote in the caption. “I would describe my style as free. I’ve worked a long time to find a space where I don’t care what other people think about me. That’s a real interesting and hard place to get to. I’m there. I’m free."
He later gave his fans a glimpse behind-the-scenes of his preparation for the big bash at his home on Sunday, as he documented his primping and preening in a series of clips on his Instagram Stories.
“Okay so listen. You know, we’re having Emmys at the house, so I’ve got to do all my stuff. So welcome into, you know, all of my ablutions and creams…that make this face fierce," Billy told the camera as he shaved his face with a towel wrapped around his waist. "We know what’s going on in the world, so I’m trying to hold space for all things. Trying not to lose my mind. Trying to have fun tonight."
