It’s officially pumpkin spice latte season!
Do you have a dog? Do you enjoy a Starbucks latte? If so, this news is for you!
Dogs can now enjoy pumpkin spice lattes alongside their owners, thanks to this recipe from Open Farm Pet Food that has adjusted the coffee treat, first popularized by Starbucks, and made it both safe and enjoyable for your pup.
Before we get to the ingredients, it is important to mention that the website states that some of the ingredients in a classic pumpkin spice latte for humans are particularly unsafe for dogs. Nutmeg, a common inclusion in pumpkin pie spice mix, is toxic for pups, so make sure to leave it out.
It is also important to check that the whipped cream you are using for your pup PSL does contain xylitol, a sugar substitute that is extremely toxic to dogs.

The canine-friendly "latte" ingredients include:
- 1 cup Open Farm Kefir (organic raw cow milk).
- 1 cup pure pumpkin puree.
- Dash ground cinnamon.
- A touch of whipped cream (homemade recipe or store-bought*).
- Open Farm dog treats, to garnish.
Here’s how to make it:
- Blend kefir and pumpkin in a blender. Add more kefir or pumpkin for desired thickness.
- Optional: If making homemade whipped cream, mix the heavy whipping cream in a bowl. With an electric beater, beat until stiff peaks form.
- Pour pumpkin spice latte into a small cup and crumble Open Farm dog treats to garnish. For an added treat, add a touch of whipped cream.
