According to a dating relationship expert, there is a rule to dating that sets a parameter according to the societal norm.

The rule is you divide your age by two then you add 7 to calculate the socially-acceptable minimum age for a partner. To find the oldest age you can date you would subtract 7 from your age and then double it.
