Rapper Waka Flocka Flame went vegan after tiring of the "stretch marks" he developed as he packed on the pounds.

The No Hands star found himself struggling to control his weight after rising to fame, and in 2014, he decided to cut all animal products from his diet in a desperate bid to slim down.

"I was fat. I had stretch marks... I just got tired of it," Waka explains in a new promotional video for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The rapper soon noticed the drastic change had been good for his overall health, and that was all the convincing he needed to stick to the meat and dairy-free diet.

"I got on stage, I felt better," he says. "My attitude was better. Like, everything about me was better."

The new PETA campaign clip also features hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and R&B singer Mya sharing the reasons for their vegan lifestyles.

"It's the 100 billion animals that I worry about...," remarks Russell, who has followed the diet plan for almost two decades. "When you're looking at your plate... you see the process of the throats being slit, the mistreatment of animals, the souls that they do have."

Mya shares the same sentiments after learning all about the health issues meat eaters suffer from: "I was awakened to things that my parents didn't know," she says. "I was raised on pork... steak, chicken, everything... And everyone in my family pretty much of the older generation has diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer. My mother is a two-time cancer survivor."

They aren't the only stars to promote veganism - singer Ne-Yo admitted he was recently turned off eating meat after watching food documentary What the Health, which featured experts discussing the benefits of the diet.
