For years, parents in Montreal have had to line up outside for hours (sometimes days) in order to register their students for kindergarten. This coming year, however, things will be somewhat different for a few schools around the city.
The English Montreal School Board (ESMB) has announced a new plan that will give parents a chance to register their children for the following five elementary schools without having to wait outside next month.
Royal Vale in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce
Edinburgh in Montreal West
Merton in Côte Saint-Luc
East Hill in Rivière-des-Prairies
Gardenview in Saint-Laurent
The EMSB says that any parents who are interested in those five schools will be able to book an appointment online and register for the 2021-2022 academic year starting Jan. 25.
“Over the years these schools have had long lineups, some starting days before registration occurred,” the school board said in a statement. “Parents will be called to validate their information, told if they got a spot and given an appointment time.”
Registration for kindergarten classes at all other EMSB schools will then take place the first week of February.
If your child already has a sibling at the school, he or she will be able to sign up before that.
