Even though the pandemic has made travel difficult, Santa and his reindeer will be able to fly through open skies on Christmas Eve!
Transport Canada has officially approved Santa to travel this holiday season, just in time for Christmas.
“This year, it’s especially important for Santa to follow the measures in place for safe travel. Santa and his crew provide an essential service in Canada and I am thrilled to clear Santa for take-off in Canadian airspace this Christmas,” said Marc Garneau, Canada’s Minister of Transport. I would like to remind Canadians to avoid non-essential travel and I want to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season.”
According to the agency, Santa has even added COVID-19 safety protocols to his yearly routine and will be washing his hands often, staying two metres away from the elves, and wearing a mask when working. Meanwhile, safety experts with Transport Canada have validated Santa’s pilot’s licence and inspected his sleigh for safe travel.
Officials also report that Santa has installed the COVID Alert app on his smartphone.
“Rest assured, Santa’s rosy cheeks are a sign of good health. As for Rudolph, his nose is shining brighter than ever before, and he and the other reindeer are healthy and ready for take-off,” officials say.
For anyone wishing to track Santa and his reindeer, you can do so using the NORAD Santa Tracker and on Twitter following the NoradTracksSanta hashtag.
