2020 was a big year for obvious reasons, and while it hasn’t been the kindest year, it has been a stellar year for music.
As you might guess from the title of this article, the focus of this list is music that was massively popular — songs that ruled the charts, went viral on social media, or otherwise blew up in a big way. The best songs of 2020 provided a brief escape from the turmoil happening outside. They offered comfort when we needed it most, helped soothe our anxiety, and acted as a temporary substitute for the dancefloors, concerts, and parties the pandemic stole from us.
