Meryl Streep would love to dress in the "confetti explosion" way her character in The Prom does.

Meryl leads an all-star cast in Ryan Murphy's latest Netflix project, a film version of Broadway musical The Prom, which debuted in Atlanta in 2016 before transferring to the famous New York theatre district two years later.

James Corden, Nicole Kidman, and Kerry Washington also star in the movie, which tells the story of a troupe of self-obsessed theatre stars who travel to a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.

For her role as veteran stage star Dee Dee Allen, Meryl got to don a wardrobe full of glitzy and colourful garments, and in an interview with British radio station Magic FM, she admitted she'd love to dress like that in real life.

"I know, me too, me too, I wish I could dress this way," she beamed when the Magic presenter complimented her costumes. "Just to put a colour on takes everything in my resolve to do it in the morning. And this is just, oh an explosion! A confetti explosion, glitter and colour - oh, it's just a joy."

Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Ariana DeBose, and Jo Ellen Pellman round out the main cast, with The Prom streaming now on Netflix.
