We all know many business owners across Canada have had no choice but to close their doors over the past few months and it’s no surprise that the restaurant industry has been hit the hardest during this pandemic. What you might find surprising, however, is the number of restaurants that have closed since last March.
According to Restaurants Canada, 10,000 restaurants were forced to close across the country, and almost 50 per cent are expected to close for good if there is no improvement.
To help, the non-profit foodservice association decided to launch a campaign titled “Picture life without restaurants” which asks consumers to take action and support their local restaurant through dine-in (where available), takeout, delivery, or by purchasing gift cards.
Through the campaign, you can also share your favourite restaurant memories from your social feed using the hashtag #RestaurantsAreFamily and they’ll share it with the rest of the nation, so everyone gets the picture.
“It really does take a village and together we can support the foodservice and hospitality industry – from restaurants and bars to farmers, to food and beverage brands – for all those times they supported us,” said Todd Barclay, President, and CEO of Restaurants Canada.
