Despite the love for Queen Elizabeth II, a poll shows a majority of Canadians don’t think the monarchy is relevant to their lives anymore.

According to the latest study by the Angus Reid Institute, 55% of people in Canada no longer find the British Royal Family relevant— a significant increase since the question was asked last year, when 41% of Canadians responded no to the same question.

According to the results, only one in five Canadians feel that the British Royal Family are as relevant as they used to be (19%) or more relevant than ever (2%).

The poll was conducted after a difficult year for the monarchy in which Prince Andrew withdrew from public life amid the controversy over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle departed as senior members of the Royal Family.
