For the sixth consecutive day, The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has added fewer than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in single day.
Quebec reported exactly 800 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours bringing the overall total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 280,687.
The province also added 14 deaths due to the disease but only one of those deaths occurred in the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths linked to the virus in the province now stands at 10,278.
The last time the single-day death count was this low was on Sept. 11 when zero new deaths were reported in a 24-hour period.
Quebec hospitalizations also continued to drop. As of Friday morning, there was a total of 723 people in hospital because of COVID-19. Of those, 127 people are in the intensive care ward.
Montreal continued to report the highest increase in cases with 353 new (102,872 total) followed by Monteregie, Lanaudiere, Laval and the Laurentians.

Unfortunately, Quebec has 16 confirmed cases involving variants, as well as 236 presumptive cases, according to an update from the Insitute national de santé publique du Québec.
The federal government warns that if provinces don’t maintain or increase public health measures, the new COVID-19 variants detected in Canada could lead to an alarming spike in cases.
