Starting on March 26, Quebec gyms have been given the green light to reopen across the province, and yes, that includes those in red zones— but it does come with some restrictions.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect:

You are required to wear masks inside the gym, except when you are working out at a station. When you leave the workout station you must put on a mask right away.

You must always respect the two-metre physical distancing rule.

You can train alone, in a maximum of two, or with anyone you reside with. We assume you may have to show proof of address.

Gyms in Montreal can only permit a maximum of eight customers at a time, so expect some line-ups and long waiting times.

Some gyms require registration before arrival, so we recommend you call your gym in advance to see what their rules are. Some gyms are also implementing maximum time slots which allow people to work out for a maximum of one hour at a time.

Finally, gym equipment must be wiped down after each use, although this is something everyone was asked to do before the pandemic.

You can also resume one-on-one personal training but there are no group classes at gyms in red zones.
