A new report from MacLean’s Magazine lists the top 25 communities in Canada to live and work in 2021— and this year, not one spot in Quebec made the cut. Instead, Halifax ranked as the top place "to live and work remotely in 2021" while Ontario ranked as the province with the most appearances (11 in total).
Maclean’s used a detailed methodology using nine categories to score for livability including:
- Population
- Property tax as a percent of average income
- Annual days above 20C
- Crime Severity Index 5-year average
- Doctors’ offices per 100,000 residents
- Household members able to work on a single internet connection
Another large factor in the ranking was the trend of people working from home due to closed workplaces amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
