According to Mayor Valerie Plante, restaurant patios could open in Montreal by June 1st.

In a recent press conference, Mayor Plante shared that Montrealers may be able to enjoy outdoor dining again for the first time in months, “if public health permits”. Should plans persist, restaurants must follow various health measures, including reduced capacity of seating.

While there are many factors that will come into play into finalizing this decision, Plante shared in the Thursday press conference that this will depend on the number of cases on the island, as well as the progress in the vaccine rollout.

"If it stays that way, I think it would be great to give an indication to restaurants and bars that they can open up their terrasses. I think it would be fantastic for them. They need that type of support. Again, of course, we'll be following the rules."
